SQM outsourcing: new approach to quality assurance « Thread Started on Jun 25, 2009, 10:22am »
LSC has said that from April 2010 it will "adopt a more proportionate, tailored approach to quality assurance"
By "...looking at the different factors that drive quality and provide assurance in each category of law. The changes are due to take full effect by April 2013."

Which might suggest they have so far been taking a less proportionate, tailored approach to quality assurance....
Actually, I like the idea of quality assurance regimes within provider bodies being acceptable and adequate for - in the main - assuring professional standards and quality. For the individual provider, who already has to technically satisfy their particular "trade body" and the LSC seperately (although usually it is the same) it will mean a little less burdonsome administration, and for the trade bodies, is a nice recognition that they really are genuinely interested in assuruing and accrediting their members.

Just noticed that "Legal Aid providers will pay for subsequent quality audits, but we will seek to keep costs down"> So we will have to pay to be audited??! Okay, so with robust accreditation, part of what is now peer review won't be needed, but still, providers have to pay to be audited? We will become the customer therefore, and we will demand a better quality audit. We don't want to pay for something that is poor standard work, do we? more fun and games here than I first spotted!

Exactly
In the spirit of wardoll's comment, the key thing about this LSC announcement is:
"We will continue to audit contracts awarded in 2010, but all providers must possess an up to date quality management standard that they have paid for in time to be awarded contracts in April 2013"
